10 Days of Christmas Blogging (Day 1)

HI I'm Ingrid and I'm from Wesley Intermediate School and this week we will be doing the 10 days of Christmas blogging here is the day 1 task.

We had to create two slides on how we celebrate Christmas and how another culture celebrates Christmas as well. I have put down what I do for Christmas and my other culture one I have chosen Germany because they have very interesting traditions for the Christmas celebration!



You should try this with your school or class! It is very fun and can be part of your inquiry. It helps you find out more about this celebration and how other cultures celebrate.

Maths DLO

Hi I'm Ingrid, and I'm from Wesley Intermediate School and this morning we where learning about converting standard form numbers back into ordinary numbers. Here is my DLO ( Digital learning objective) that I made on it. 

It was very confusing but I still got the hang of it. I can now make my own equations and some of them are quite tricky. Here are some for you to try. 5.3 x 104   and 4.1 x 10 -6 Try figure out the answers and let me know in the comments. This task was very fun and I would recommend it to teachers to teach others.

Wesley School Camp 1 week to go.

Hi I'm Ingrid and I'm from Wesley Intermediate school and we have the weekend to go then we have school camp!!!

Where we are going for camp = Narrows Park camp.



We will be going on Tuesday and we are coming back on Friday.  Then we get the holidays so it's going to feel like a three week holiday!

Some of the various activities are
1. Archery
2. Go Carting
3. Rifles
4. Paintball
And many others!!
Camp only happens every two years so through the whole time your intermediate you only do it once.
I am looking forward to camp because it will be a worthwhile experience and it will be so much fun.

Maths Flash Cards.

Hi I'm Ingrid and I'm from Wesley Intermediate school and this week we have been making flash cards for maths. Flash cards can help you improve on you basic facts knowledge and speed. They don't just have to be used for basic facts only.



We made our flash cards from some old cardboard and some paper we glued them together and we decorated them with our new class colouring pencils and we wrote our equations. We then had to buddy up into groups and test each other on our flash cards. They had to be equations that where not answered of had been wrong. They where equations from the maths test that was made us of Multiplication and division. Some other people had other questions.
Everyone had different kinds of flash cards.   Everyday we have to test each other with the equations. Everyday we get better. Flash cards are a way to get better a maths and more efficient with it too.

Tongan Language week alphabet singing practice.

Hi I'm Ingrid and I'm from Wesley Intermediate School and this week was Tongan language week. This is a singing practice of the Tongan alphabet. Sorry for any cringe. Here we go the Tongan language alphabet. Word of the week = Faka apa apa = respect.

Writing Tasks.

Hi I'm Ingrid and I'm from Wesley Intermediate School and for our writing task this week we have been learning about simple, compound and complex sentences.
Here is a screen shot of my work.

Simple sentence SC
Has one idea that is stuck to.

Compound sentence SC
Has two simple sentence ideas joined together by a conjunction.

Complex SC
They start with a conjunction joined to a simple sentence which is joined to another simple sentence by a comma.

Blogging and learning in the classroom.

Hi I'm Ingrid and I'm from Wesley Intermediate school and today I will be telling you about blogging and learning in the classroom.

In room 9 we didn't blog very much. Then our teacher Mr Walker got us to blog more. After we post we link our post to what we call a learning log. A learning log is one of these. A google sheet filled with links.

This is a learning log. You link all of your work to it unless your work is in your book.
When we blog we add a DLO, A Digital learning objective. If you did your work in your book it would just be an LO, Learning Objective. Alright back to blogging. When I blog I start off by introducing myself then I tell them what I will be talking about. I add pictures not just words and I like to ask questions. With blogging I think that I need to work on making my posts easier to read.

Now what do I like to do first when I blog?
What else do I need to work on?

School House groups.

Hi I'm Ingrid and I'm from Wesley Intermediate School and at our school we have house groups.

Our House groups are named after castles/palaces. There are four houses each with their own colour.
I am in Windsor and it's colour is Yellow. The other houses are Edinburgh which is blue, Marlborough which is green and Sandringham which is red.

In my opinion Windsor is the best because it has a family sort of feel to it we all work together to earn housepoints and try our hardest at house activities. We are also yellow/gold which is the "winning colour" and we have Win in our name.

Ski trip to Mt Ruapehu

Hi I'm Ingrid and I'm from Wesley Intermediate School and this week I went skiing on Mt Ruapehu.

This week a small group of people went down to Mt Ruapehu to ski. We stayed at a luxury lodge called Mountain Heights Lodge. We were served breakfast and dinner. The breakfast was all optional and the food on offer was, Eggs, bacon, beans and toast. For dinner there were three courses. First course, the best pumpkin soup in the world, it’s so good that I now like pumpkin. Second course, Lasagne and coleslaw also delicious. Then the third course or dessert, two types of Ice cream, boysenberry and vanilla with chocolate and caramel sauces, sprinkles, Miss Davis’ birthday cake and a fruit salad.

The beds had electric blankets to keep you warm in the night but there were also lots of heaters. We snuggled up tight in the first night but we didn’t get to sleep until midnight or so. The second night we all fell asleep quite quickly because of how tired we were after a full day of skiing. During the second day it was too stormy to ski so we went to some hot pools at Taupo DeBretts then we watched a dam open to the Aratiatia rapids. We then got on a ferry that took us through the waikato river to Huka falls.

For dinner on the way there and the way home we had MACCAS (McDonalds) The lodge was a luxury lodge so we couldn't eat in the bedrooms.

Procedural writing.

Hi I'm Ingrid and I'm from Wesley Intermediate school and this week I have been learning how to write a procedure.
LO: To write a procedure for how to make a new google document. Writing a procedural/instructional piece of writing is what you would do if you wanted to create an instruction book like for crafts or a recipe. You start with a title and then you work your way through prep time and the equipment/ingredient lists. Why do you think we need to start with the title?

I found this task interesting and a little bit easy and we could not use any keyboard shortcuts and we had to base it using a google account.I would like to know why we need to learn how to write a procedure? Why do we need to write an equipment and an ingredient list? Why do we have success criteria? I would like to know about how to write a fully functional procedural piece. I think I need to work on making sure to use action words to start a step.

Wesley's school gym team.

Hi I'm Ingrid and I'm from Wesley Intermediate school and today we had our school gymnastics team practice.


We got the beam out and some mats and we cleaned off all the mud. The people  in the gymnastics team are Joy, Millie, Zoe, Laura-lee and Lizzie and obviously me. There are no boys in the team but we can manage without them. We have already had one competition and have a small group going down for AIMS. We will be competing in many other competitions. Rocket Presentation

Hi I'm Ingrid and I'm from Wesley Intermediate school. Today part of my class went to Wesley Primary school to present our rockets because it is linked with what they are learning about - flight. We showed them some different experiments and we did two test flights. The first test flight failed a slight bit because we didn't pump enough pressure into the bottle. The second test flight was amazing it blasted right up into the air and was going very high. We talked to the two classrooms about what they learnt and what was going to happen, what the differences of the two tests were.

Creating Millie our class character.

Hi I'm Ingrid and I'm from Wesley Intermediate School and this is my drawing of our class character called Millie we used google drawings to create her.
We have been learning how to create a narrative character.
If I had to do this again I would make it much more detailed and it would be more of a challenge to put every detail I need to create my character. It was a very enjoyable task that was very time consuming. Our LO was to create a character using google drawings and to give it a sort of cartoonish look to it.

Instructions

1. Choose a picture to trace over start with something easy.

2. Zoom in and use the tool polygon and trace all the lines.

3. When you are finished tracing all the lines colour them in and you have your picture!!!!

Matariki stopmotion

HI I'm Ingrid and I'm from Wesley Intermediate school and this is my MATARIKI stop motion slide. This week we where learning about Matariki. I enjoyed making this but it was very challenging moving everything one step at a time I liked this challenge because it was quiet time consuming. If I had to make another animation I would choose a different topic and different characters. We had to include facts about Matariki and our own special touch.
Instructions on use.

1. Hold down the right arrow key.

2. When a speech bubble appears you may stop pressing the right arrow key and read the speech bubble.

3. When you are finished reading the speech bubble continue pressing the right arrow key.

4. When you are finished watching share it with your friends and family.

AkoHiko Student Toolkits.

Hi I'm Ingrid and I'm from Wesley Intermediate school and today I went to the akohiko student toolkits I participated in two activities and my friends and I instructed the last session.

During our first session we learn't how to use a green or blue screen using wevideo. We created short films using wevideo and a blue screen. Joy, Helene, Millie & I created a funny breaking news comedy video using the blue screen. 

During our second session we learn't how to make animations on google slides. We picked images and made them move ever so slightly we had a lot of fun doing that one and seeing what everyone else did.

During the last session my friends Joy, Helene, Millie and I presented our session. How to make animations using stop motion. We told everyone in that session what it was how to use it what to do showed them a demonstration an example and another one which we made in under half an hour which we showed other ways to do things.

TinkerCad

Hi I'm Ingrid and I'm from Wesley Intermediate School and we've been using tinkercad for our maths tasks.

Our LO (Learning Objective) was this - Create patterns using translation, rotation and reflection.

My pattern is made of different shapes and colours the colours relate to the keys for translation and the other movements.
I enjoyed doing this task very much it helped me with my learning and my maths the challenging part about this task was we needed to keep everything colour coordinated and when something had to be a reflection we had to duplicate the shapes and it all became a challenge. If I had to do this again I would pick a challenging shape to work with so that it would be more of a challenge for my brain.

ASB Getwise workshop

Hi I'm Ingrid from Wesley Intermediate school and today Something amazing happened.

The ASB getwise is a program about saving and spending by a guy called Jayden who gave us a 15-20 min pep talk then introduced us to a saving and spending game. On the white board he wrote a grid in which he put items and their prices out total price so our budget was $1,800 to spend on a trip to LA.


There were 3 teams that the class was split into that we could spend our money together.
We all ended up with no dept to anyone and no credit card bills were stilled needing to be owed.



At the end after the game every one got wrist bands and it was fun learning about what can go wrong if you don't spend and make the right choices. I enjoyed it very much it helped me learn how to deal with money and this made it challenging because of all the choices we had if I had to do it again I would conserve my money and buy insurance and make some better choices with my group.

Proposal writing for a special event

Hi I'm Ingrid and I'm from Wesley Intermediate School and the special event that this proposal writing is for is the Rocket lab design workshop the group will be made up of four and I'm hoping it will be Helene, Millie, Joy and Myself. We are really hoping that we get to be picked as a group.

Last week of School for Term 1

Hi I'm Ingrid from Wesley Intermediate school and this is the last week of school for term one yay we finally finished a term.

What will you be doing these holidays? I will have my Dad's parents come over from america and we will have a family trip up to a place called Russel while we are up there we will visit the Waitangi house. We will be renting a bach and it comes with a whole heap of bedrooms a ping pong table and a 30 second walk from a beach. There are life jackets kayak and paddles that come with the house.
